Public Relations in 2020

The Public Relations industry has seen significant changes over the last decade. These changes pertain to the way we communicate and interact with each other online. This is due to the advancements of the social web and the ever changing world of social media. Communicating has never been easier. The year 2020 has seen the most important and significant changes. As everyone is now predominantly at home, our computer and internet connection have become a lifeline.

The world woke up on 1 January 2020 with new hopes, dreams and motivation for a successful year ahead. But as we started to approach March, our hopes and dreams were quickly shattered. The terrible beast called Covid19 attacked our friends, families, businesses and the economy, leaving our livelihoods in ruins. However, there is a silver lining to the current situation we all find ourselves in. We now know that we can work from home successfully. We can also speak to friends and family and still feel like they are right there with us. The world has taken significant technological leaps recently and we are the lucky ones reaping the rewards.

Businesses are now holding zoom meetings with stakeholders which is proving very effective. Social media is being used as an advertising space that sees thousands of people clicking and directed exactly where others want them to be. These examples have only touched the surface of the social web. There is so much more we can all utilise to really connect with others. Communication is a two-way street and it doesn’t have to occur in person to be effective.

Gone are the days where you actually have to see someone in person to communicate. You can now sit in your comfy office chair and interact with others for hours online without having to do much at all. The social web is the new web and it is the new way of life.
